Learn about resource consumption in TRX transfers and TRC20 contract calls, and why two transfers may incur different fees.
What Do Bandwidth and Energy Measure?
Bandwidth measures transaction data, and ordinary TRX transfers consume bandwidth as well. Energy measures smart contract execution. TRC20 token transfers are contract calls, so they usually consume both energy and bandwidth. If available resources are insufficient, TRX may be burned to cover the shortfall.
A Hypothetical Calculation Example
Suppose a call consumes 60,000 energy, but the account has only 40,000 energy available for that transaction, leaving a shortfall of 20,000. At a hypothetical price of 100 SUN/energy for educational purposes only, the energy cost would be 2,000,000 SUN = 2 TRX. This is not a live mainnet price; bandwidth, other fees, and the actual resource deduction rules must also be considered.
Why Can't USDT Transfer Fees Be Fixed?
The recipient account's state, contract execution path, dynamic energy model, and on-chain parameters can all affect fees. Wallet estimates and transaction receipts are more reliable than a fixed constant; failed transactions may also consume resources. fee_limit is the fee limit for a contract transaction, not a fixed charge.
